the name of the social service agency is called WOW!

Mr Benny! the soul of this agency!
we were planning for the 2 day 1 night camp on friday (090606)
as usual, how we plan for the camps in npcc.
log la this n that!
the only difference is we are going to have onli 12 campers
and we scratch our head to spice up our activities cause is a totally different group of ppl.
we need to excite them!
is so unlike where whatever we conduct in npcc.
cadets got no choice but to take it n pretend that they enjoy.haha
tuesday (130606) was the actual camp

we set off and reach hougang mall mac at 8.00am for breakfast
and miss loy was late! haha.n when she come she say this
OK! we are left we 7 campers!
haha
we were like.HAHA ratio 1:1.
let go ice skate and watch CAR!
let her n pei ling go run the camp!haha.cause she was late too.=p
but we still went!
we proceed on the punggol CC our "campsite"
when we reach no one REACHED....
so we sat down outside (small backyard) and chat like ah pek n ah ma.
after ahwile MR BENNY came and he opened up the WOW! HIVE (the agency room located at the basement of the CC)
it was cosy!!!!!!the moment we sat down we start playing the uno cards as if it is ours.cause campers have not reached.
mr benny gave us alittle background bout WOW!
n the campers come strolling in one by one!

we started of with a 3 round introduction
then space cube game!
after space cube we did a debrief on the their feeling when they are playing the space cube.
so we wrote down their postive n negative feeling
so kaiyuan mumble: SI BEI DU LAN....
n we wrote down.i think that surprised them!
coz many cannot accept that.esp we r from npcc a we so called discipline CCA.
but hack! is the true feeling..=p
we should learn to accept!
BBall game with them.
i sucks at it.not noeing the rules and stufff....
expecting them to scold me and curse me.they didn't!!!!
they patiently explain to me bout the rules this n that.
which surprise me.and i m kinda touched to see that despite the "competition" they still care so much for thier own teammates!
Dinner was the best (like mr benny say its the time where i actualli connect with them)
they are suppose to prepare the dinner for 15 ppl.
so with the group plus pei chee n me.
we started cooking! with limited utensils
i have a great loads of fun
those kids were cute.i seems to become the auntie or the mother in the group.i kept asking them to wash the wok cut the fruits properly this n that.nag nag nag....but they followed.
we kinda expect lousy foood from them
however we are able we whip up a table of nice food!
proud of them!
but of course the details where i have fun is hard to put it in words.u got to realli experience with the kids then u will noe.
at night.we all activities ended
james n myself went to challenge the CRAZY CUP
we were like idiots trying to figure how to play.n they played it so well..
yao ming was fast 3 sets of pattern he complete it within 16 seconds.we where like WOW!~
then last day was turbo!
we planned to end the camp at 1130am
however,it went to to 330pm
we did nothing but sit down and talk (a debrief session) that is the most beneficial from all the debrief i have been to! YES! the most beneficial as we get feedbacks that comes from the HEART n not the BRAIN.
There is one boy kaiyuan.he sort of touch me by the question he asked.
on the 1st night he went over to mr benny n ask whether we will be joining them for their bbq 2nd day morning, while they are having their breakfast,we sitting one coner.he asked :"what about them (the instructors)" sort of like asking y ain't we having breakfast.
they are WOW kids we barely noe them for 1 day n they care so much about us.
i mean will our cadets ask about us? it makes me wonder.alot of them onli think about themselves giving them care n concern.and we have been with then since they step into NPCC.
like pei chee say.when we put in so much effort and dun get return is kinda disheartening...
or maybe our approach is wrong.but is still kinda sad to see them not responding to your care n concern
All instructors learned alot......alot alot!
everything din go according as planned
we planned and adapt as we go along.
quite slack.but is really a fruitful one....=p
after so many years in NPCC..
all we noe is if cadets are wrong we punish we scold we make a big fuss out of it...
it might work sometimes.but at this stage.it is not working anymore...
HUMOROUS (said by mr benny) is the key factor u must have in order to connect with the people.which is true! cause when u are fierce.no one wuld ever tell u their true feeling.
yesterday n today was the PK course.
all along the sec 3 are quite difficult to handle.
cause when u scold they repay u by not coming back the next time round.
yesterday we change our approach.we approach them like how we did it in WOW camp with the kids.we began to use jokes to bring across big value.
n it works!today they are totally different.so much of teamwork.so much or enthu.
we forgo the old training stuff...crack jokes to make them participate n make them say their truthful positive and negative feedback about NPCC n about us
we learn and they learn.i realli hope it will be for long.=p
n that also shows that what we learn during the WOW camp realli works
is all about CONNECTING with your ppl. esp cadets
when u wan them to learn from u n trust u.
u might be surprise that they will respect u even more in this way.
there is no fear that they would climb over your head
however, xaiver.hongkuan.jianfeng ended up calling me a mother.
they say i was different.if it were last time...i will start to raise my voice.........n go for veri long hrs with them on their fours!
indeed.there a change but i like the change.i like it when i m able to connect with them n get honest feedback!
small group is better for coaching.
i get to fully understnad this point thru the camp
i always tell mrs long.if the group is too small i dunno how to teach!
now i will say.if the group is small....i will be able to teach better!
like wad mr benny said.singaporean always tok about numbers!
the more the merrier.but what do the big number of ppl gain after that?
nothing! numbers are only there to make paper look good.
from this camp i also learnt alot from my group of instructors
james.his toilet theory which talks about initiative.and he say this: "YOU ARE NEVER THE WORST.NEITHER ARE YOU THE BEST"
he asked pc for my age and add on.....REALLY. but she protray a motherly figure.i m like u are calling me a AUNTIE la.haha.
melvin. self proclaim "handsome" dude.he say this:whatever you do patient is important!
missy loy.there is only 2 way u can presude ppl.one is from the heart.the other is by conning.is only words from the heart then u talk on n on! if u need to con ppl it will be tiring as u need to come up with lie after lie to make ppl belive in u
mr benny.display yourself only when u are good.if not you will only disgrace YOURSELF.
peiling.the "gong".her efficiency in making the slideshow for the kids n us.and how she praises the kids time n again!
